Bright and unusual, Annie was brought up on a farm.
Though intelligent, Annie's dyslexic and her grandfather believed her to be 'slow' as she couldn't learn to read and write normally. After Annie and her older brother, Geoff, were orphaned by a car accident, their very strict, Bible-bashing grandfather, Bruce, never bothered sending her to school again. Instead, she helped around the house and farm and was expected to do domestic duties beyond that of other 11-year-old girls.
Annie's a strange mix of knowing farm waif and innocent child, partly muddled by old-fashioned religious morality. She's a handful, but much of her waywardness has been tamed now that she is at school. She is becoming a young woman and interested in fashion and boys and is very protective over her brother Geoff.
Annie recently started dating newcomer to the Bay, Jai. While the rest of the school seems to be against him, she offers him a great friendship.

Geoff her brother is her only remaining family. Her Grandfather Bruce died.
