Hi all,
Unfortunately I have to start with some terrible news: while Jai was fine after the hit and run, Axel didn’t make it. Everyone is shocked – it’s just such a tragedy. And if it couldn’t get any worse, it turns out Larry, Aden’s father, may have been driving the car that killed Axel. Aden found a blood-stained shirt, his station wagon has been burnt out and he’s skipped town. Aden and Belle went to the police. I wonder if they’ll find him? Larry has proven himself to be the worst possible parent and I really feel for Aden.
Principal Bartlett has really started to rely on Kirsty, and even came by to see if she would give up some of her holiday time to develop a plan to help students deal with Axel’s death, which of course she said yes to. He told her he was brought up by a single parent and that he understands how tough it must be. I think there’s a softie lurking underneath that tough exterior!
Jai has been acting very strangely after Axel’s death. Alf nearly ran into Jai wandering aimlessly in the middle of the road, and then Annie saw him jump over a cliff into the ocean, yelling the word ‘invincible’. When she spoke to him, he told her he did it to test out his theory; he’s invincible! He believes after all the near misses he’s been involved in and come out of unscathed, that he is just not meant to die. While I can sympathize with Jai, and see why he thinks this, I think this is a very, very dangerous idea for a young boy to have.
Matilda has left for university but that doesn’t mean the Ric and Mattie dramas are over – far from it! Ric had been hanging out with Kirsty quite a bit and she persuaded him to give Matilda a call. When he did, he was understandably shocked to hear a male voice at the end of the line, Matilda’s Residential Advisor Nathan. Heartbroken, Ric thought Mattie had moved on. Later, Ric and Mattie finally did speak, and she explained she wasn’t seeing anyone, but that was AFTER what happened next… Kirsty had been getting on so well with everyone at the Summer Bay House that Miles asked her if she’d like to move in – more space than the van. Thrilled, she accepted straight away. Ric was initially pleased she was moving in, given she’s been such a great support with the whole Matilda thing, but then without thinking, he kissed Kirsty!
According to Miles, it was hard to tell who was more shocked; Kirsty or Ric. Clearly embarrassed, Ric took off, leaving Miles to ask a seriously confused Kirsty if there was anything going on with them, which of course she said no too. Kirsty started to question whether moving in to the Summer Bay House was such a good idea. When I found out about Kirsty’s doubts, I decided to offer to take her place and move in instead. Our place is really too big for me and VJ, and the money I could make renting it out would really help with my debt. But before I even got the chance to ask Miles, Kirsty received a heartfelt apology from Ric – he was just confused and missing Mattie. In the end, she decided she will move in after all. I have to admit, I was feeling pretty disappointed.
Morag and Ross’ wedding was absolutely wonderful. Morag was a picture of elegance and sophistication and Ross looked quite the gentleman. Martha looked particularly lovely - my prayers are with her right now. She wasn’t going to come to the wedding, but everyone was glad she did. She really does just radiate light. But at the hospital she dropped a bombshell on Jack - she changed her mind about the lumpectomy and decided to go ahead with a mastectomy instead. This would give her a better chance of isolating the cancer without needing other risky treatments later on. Jack was reeling at Martha’s decision, which seemed to have come completely out of the blue, but Martha insisted she had thought it through and wanted to do whatever was best to treat the cancer and help the baby, even if that means losing a breast. In the end Jack, though bewildered and struggling with her decision, had no option but to support her. After the operation, Rachel told Jack they still couldn’t clear all the cancer, and the best option would be to have a course of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, something Jack knew Martha would turn down as she doesn’t want to harm the baby. And he was right - when they try to broach the subject with her she was adamant she won’t have the treatment until after the baby is born. Jack begged her to re-consider but their conversation ended with Martha, hurt and confused, lashing out at him, and breaking down. Poor Martha.
Later, Jack suggested to involve Roman in the decision about her treatment. Martha said she has made her mind up, regardless of who the baby’s father is. But, she admitted that not knowing the paternity of the baby was an added pressure. So, Jack suggested they take control of the problems they can control - and that means doing the DNA test.
Meanwhile Roman had been trying to get hold of Nicole at her mum’s, but was stunned to find out Nicole’s mum had no idea she was supposed to be with her - she hasn’t heard from Nicole in weeks. Panic-stricken, he tried to think of where she could be, when suddenly it hit him – Elliot, the brother of his army friend who she was getting friendly with. His instinct proved right and when he knocked at Elliot’s door, Nicole answered, telling Roman that Elliot has decided to move to Summer Bay. He and Nicole had apparently become pretty close and they want to see where it could lead. Roman was shocked by Elliot’s news – it seems there’s something about Elliot he just can’t trust.
Oh, and some strange news as well from Belle and Aden at the end of the week, whom I thought were getting along very well. Apparently he just completely snapped and picked a huge fight with her, saying some awful things. Belle was gutted – I wonder what is going on?
More news next week!
