Things are heating up between Jack and Martha – literally!
We sat down with Paul (Hero) O'Brien to have a chat about the fiery furnace he has to enter to try and rescue Martha from when the Rocket Club goes up in flames!!
Q. Tell us about the fire sequences when you saved Martha from the Rocket Club.
A. Jack has just been through some stuff with Cam and he knows he’s dodgy, and Martha’s finally said, ‘OK this guy is dodgy’ too! All of a sudden we find out that she’s not in her apartment, and it turns out that Jack’s left his phone at work and when he gets his phone there’s a message on it saying, "Jack I’ve gone to the Rocket Club, Cam’s in trouble". So Jack’s driving towards the Rocket Club and when he gets there and opens up the door, the place is on fire! There’s smoke everywhere and Jacky boy goes racing in there because Martha’s mentioned that she’s in the office, he knocks on the door and has to break it down and there’s lots of fire and things falling from the ceiling, they cough their guts up, and really, it’s another bonding moment. It’s kinda like, hey even through all the drama we’ve been through, we’re still there for each other and there’s a spark of love renewed - possibly.
Q. Take us through the fire procedure for the shoot.
A. It’s pretty full-on. The crew are very good at what they do and they take a lot of precautions. They actually built an internal ceiling and on the walls they put gyprock, because they’re renting the space, so it doesn’t get burnt or damaged. They even put down some fake pylons because they end up burning them down. They put an accelerant along this big bench and it just burns and evaporates but it doesn’t actually burn up. And they had petrol on the ground and they lit that up and they built a fake ground for that so a lot of work goes into it. It was very fun and it’s great to look at...
Q. Do you think that this would be a turning point for Jack and Martha?
A. Yes, definitely! She’s starting to see what a scumbag Cam is and has realised that Jack is there for her and he’s a top bloke, he’s saved her life again. He’s pulled her out of a tough situation.
