New Year, New You!

It's a time to clear out your cuboards, cleanse your body and soul and re-assess your life plans. Here's what the stars are resolving to do for the New Year?

Sharni Vinson (Cassie Turner)

What’s your New Year’s resolution Sharni?
I want to learn guitar. I just want to get a cheap guitar and the initial instructions and just learn how to play the basic chords because I grew up as a singer and one thing I’ve always wanted to do is learn how to play an instrument.

Where will you be?
I potentially could be working in Melbourne because I didn’t have any plans and there’s an offer to do an appearance at a nightclub in Melbourne, but I don’t know yet. That might be nice.

Jessie Chapnik (Sam)

What are you doing for New Year’s?
I’m actually going to be in China. I’m going to be literally landing in China at 11.30pm, in Shanghai, and that’s very exciting. Then I’m going to India and I’ll be staying in an Ashram for two weeks visiting a Guru [laughs].

Cool. What’s that about?
A friend of mine, Ben Lee, he introduced my boyfriend and his brother to this Guru in India. We went along and it was a pretty amazing experience. Time to just look in and out. It’s good to be looking more spiritually ‘in’. I did it a year ago and I’m going back for some more.

So you’re a musician, but now you’re on Home and Away. Do you have a background in acting?
Yeah, acting’s my thing. I studied in New York for a couple of years at the Atlantic Theatre Company which is a school that David Mamet started and that was amazing. Then I got back and started auditioning and doing theatre, but music kept coming my way instead of acting. I back-up sing for Old Man River and I ended up touring for a year with Sarah Blasko, nationally and internationally, which was an amazing experience. She’s also my best friend, so that was pretty fun as well!

Kate Ritchie (Sally Fletcher – RIP?)

New Year’s resolutions?
Actually, it’s to have singing lessons next year. I keep running into people like Guy [Sebastian] and like Troy [Cassar-Daley] and they say, “Have you been having your singing lessons?” And I have to say no. So next year I’m going to have weekly lessons. Maybe.

What will you be doing for New Years?

There’s a good chance I’ll be spending it with Ada and her fiancé.

Paul O’Brien (Jack Holden)

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
I was hoping to save the world but I’m not allowed to talk about that – it’s a long story. I want to find inner peace with myself and also learn how to act better. Oh, and to spend more time learning my lines. [Laughs] Don’t tell Channel Seven!

And how are you going to do that?
I think I’ll just watch more Home and Away because the other guys have got it going on!

Do you think you could start dropping in some more slang words?
That is my New Year’s Resolution, actually: to get a catchphrase like Alf’s "flamin’". I was thinking “Ah, that’s delicious”.

What’s your New Year’s Resolution?
Jessica Tovey: To move out of home.
Irene Roberts: To keep off the kilos that I’ll shed doing Panto!
Clarissa House: Look after the environment more.
Holly Brisley: To get really fit.
